Stars of Asia project
Asian Myths and Legends of Stars and the Universe
From Editorial Board Members
For all those who love the stars
When we talk about myths and legends of the stars, many of you will immediately think of some of the ancient Greek and Roman fables and constellations. But then you might be curious; aren't there myths and legends about stars in other regions of the world? Yes, you can find rich, varied, and beautiful myths, legends, and folklore about the stars, the moon, the sun, and the universe in all the nations of the world.
We have collected and edited excellent Asian myths and legends related to stars and the universe through the cooperation of Asian countries/regions. The aim is to publish attractive books of Asian myths/legends of stars in each country/region for the public, children and teachers so that many people can enjoy these stories in school, planetarium, and at home.

The late Professor Norio Kaifu, who led the Stars of Asia project (Chairman of the Stars of Asia Editorial Board, Professor Emeritus of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan), was very keen to publish an English version of the Stars of Asia book. We have not been able to publish the book, but instead, we are making the stories more widely available on the web so that everyone can read them. This website is supported by the Stars of Asia Secretariat.
